In Debt We Trust: A very timely must-see documentary

Posted on Oct 12th, 2008 by ~C4Chaos : (hyper)linker ~C4Chaos

Growing up in a developing nation gave me the discipline on using credit cards. People in poor countries don’t trust credit cards. I remember getting my first credit card only after I had a good job. But since my parents brought me up with a mindset of living a “debtless” life, up to this day I’m very uncomfortable leaving balances on my credit card. And that’s how I’ve always lived my life here in the U.S. I always pay my credit card balance in full. I don’t charge anything I can’t afford. My only debt is my mortgage since I paid off my car way back.

Unfortunately, most Americans have a different mindset. Most young people are conditioned to use credit cards even before they have jobs. Even children are trained at an early age to buy stuff and accumulate toys, while most adults are trapped in the debt rabbit hole. Combine the hysterical mass credit conditioning, greedy lenders, less government oversight and regulation, the housing bubble and we’ve got ourselves a subprime mortgage crisis which is now pulling everyone of us into a black hole of economic uncertainty.

How did you start on your spiritual path?

Posted on Oct 15th, 2008 by ~C4Chaos : (hyper)linker ~C4Chaos
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 15, 2008:

SPIRITUAL: while in first year high school i picked up a copy of a Hindu booklet entitled Easy Journey to other Planets; the book contained mantras and meditations which can guide an individual to consciously travel to other planets and dimensions--sort of like your own personal "stargate". practiced the mantras for a while, got bored, and the only planet i found myself in was the reality of high school and my need to get a College education.

during my early working life i found another booklet my father took home one evening. it was entitled The Key of Immediate Enlightenment. i flew to a nearby island and received a "so-called" initiation. practiced a little, got bored, slid back;

while in Chicago, i got a "long distance video initiation" in Dzogchen tradition from Namkhai Norbu; practiced a little, got bored, slid back again; the most important stuff i got out these experiences was a familiarization with the Buddhist Philosophy which had been my guiding principles ever since; studied Tibetan Book for the Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche; and experimented with mind-machines;

INTEGRAL: in 1996 i saw A Brief History of Everything in a local bookstore with a big bald-headed guy with eye glasses on the cover. "you arrogant fool! how dare you claim to know 'everything'". after reading the book from cover to cover, i ate up my words. been reading his works ever since...

i cried like a sissy in Grace and Grit; i was amazed by The Spectrum of Consciousness Transformations of Consciousness and ; i marveled and got inspired with integral practice in One Taste; i slept while reading Quantum Questions; took the Theory of Everything with me on a Caribbean cruise; identified with the criticisms of Boomeritis; got overwhelmed by Integral Psychology and Eye of Spirit; skipped the 800-monster SES because i've already read A Brief History of Everything twice;

read all the stuff posted on Wilber.Shambhala and Frank Visser's website (okay not all, but certainly most); i also own those 8-volume dumbbells, also known as The Collected Works.

GOALS: to awaken in the waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states while partying in the relative realm.

P.S. I consider blogging as part of my spiritual practice.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 21, 2008:

From moving to the U.S.
- driving automatic cars on big highways, cultural diversity, independence, being self-sufficient, politics, economics, integral philosophy, patience.

From moving to Washington State:
- amount of rainfall in Seattle is overrated.

YES WE CAN. And I Just Did.

I’m not a very political person. I grew up loathing politics in my country of origin. But as a first generation immigrant and a first time voter here in the U.S., this election is very important to me. I followed it since the primaries. I got to know all the candidates. I watched the debates. I read their web sites. I watched the cable news. I investigated the issues on the internet. I’ve constantly read FactCheck.org. I blogged my heart out on political matters.

As a result, I’ve learned a lot of things in U.S. politics that I never paid attention to before. And for the first time in my life I contributed to a political campaign in exchange for a cool car magnet, and a sense of hope that things will be better than the last eight years of failed G.W. Bush policies and politically brain dead Democratic and Republican parties.

I originally planned to vote on November 4 so I could experience using those hi-tech voting machines at the polls, but I opted to vote by mail instead. I might as well vote early, save gas, and beat the long lines on election day. CONTINUE READING >
