Yasuhiko Genku Kimura On Thinking
I'm currently reading Yasuhiko Genku Kimura's Think Kosmically, Act Globally. I'm a latecomer when it comes to Kimura's integral philosophy, but I'm glad I picked up this book. Below is the best definition of thinking I've ever read.
This quote is a bit long. But I didn't want to sacrifice context. So here you go :)
------
What does it mean to be an original thinker? What is original thinking? What is originality? What is thinking?
Thinking for most people is information-shuffling. When they say they are thinking they are in fact shuffling information. Thinking is not shuffling information. The Japanese word for "to think" is "kamgaeru," which etymologically means "to return to the realm of God." The English word "to think" etymologically means "to make something appear" or "to create." To think thus etymologically means "to create by returning to the realm of God." Therefore, to think means to create in accord with the kosmic. To create in accord with the kosmic means to bring forth new identities (concept and ideas) by discovering new causative patterns through the unfolding of the knowledge of kosmic law or pattern integrity.
Thinking is therefore kosmic thinking. Thinking is also original thinking, for to think kosmically means to be at the origin of creation. Thinking is thus kosmic and original. No thinking short of being kosmic or original is authentic thinking, but only information shuffling. Hence, to be an original thinker means to be at the origin of creation or to be a co-creator with God by returning to the realm of God. How to become an original thinker? You can become an original thinker only by assuming the responsibility of thinking, and by having a commitment to truth.
To assume the responsibility of thinking means never to presume that somebody somewhere has an answer. You may consider the Christ, the Buddha, Walter Russell, or other illumined souls and geniuses your teachers, but you should never presume that they had the final answer. They may, but it is you, and you alone, who can authentically find the answer for yourself. You must return to the source of your being--the inner realm of God and of kosmic law. Only then, can you think kosmically, for then it is God, the Intelligence of Being, that thinks through and as you. Thinking is original thinking. Original thinking is kosmic thinking. There is no other kind of thinking.

Loved this.
I was just thinking (!) about how pre-verbal children might 'think'. I'm sure there are studies on this - I haven't read them - but I suspect it is close to being in the realm of God. I doubt they are shuffling information - at least in the way I know I do…
Thanks C4.
~C, Thanks for presenting someone new. I like where Yashuhiko is going. That is my perspective as well. We are thought by God, played so to speak, musical instruments, that if tuned right, allow the Music to pass through us. Every note is the first note.
Really great post ~C! Feels like a perfect spring read to me!
Sometimes I catch myself trying to sort out which of my thoughts are “mine” and which are those I've gotten elsewhere. Sometimes when I read something new to me and come across an idea that I remember having had , yet knowing that I hadn't read that author before, it makes me wonder about whether the knowledge is out there in the atmosphere and at random moments we just become aware of them and thereby incorporate them into our mind. (pardon the ramble) Anyway, I think i'll hit Amazon and order this one now.
Sandra - I have thought about this too and I wonder if at first it is more about feeling at this stage than it is thinking. A baby doesn't think “I am hungry…that means it's time to nurse…where's Mom” …I think that they just have awareness of hunger and crying is the be all response. You said “I suspect it is close to being in the realm of God” and I would have to say that I totally agree with that thought and add that feelings are the energetic essence of thought.
I also think that the younger the child the more pure is their God-sense…and that it is the learned responses, and the adaptive behaviors that take us further away from that purity. If you think about it, children come into this world already “enlightened and aware” and it is through the conditioned response that they loose that awareness.
Thanks for engaging my mind….
Laura
“The enightened child”- yes and no- is a kind of pre-trans fallacy as Ken describes it….you find more in “The eye of Spirit “……
And If you want to know more just go to Margret Mahler….there you find the most sophisticated research of this super interesting question…
…came in my mind Bucky Fullers comment on beliefs : ” Belief is when somebody else does the thinking “ :):)
Blue love D.
Laura - yes I also feel that 'knowledge' is out there in the atmosphere! ( see a related discussion at Martin's place. ) And I agree, it is oft through the conditioned response that we lose our awareness. - or rather, conditioning numbs our actions and makes our living automatic and blind.
This is why I feel this part of Yasuhiko Genku Kimura's piece is so important, and also speaks to your comment, Donata re the “pre-trans fallacy”:
You can become an original thinker only by assuming the responsibility of thinking, and by having a commitment to truth.
This is not something I've studied, nor have a good Wiliber/Mahler analysis, but it is my experience that something 'else' happens as we evolve, as we 'grow up'. Yes, we lose a certain connection 'to God' that we had as small children, but if we have a commitment to taking responsibility for ourselves - our thoughts, our actions; if we commit to looking deeply within and without ourselves - this brings awareness of another kind - something larger than that of the child.
If we do not bring awareness to our conditioning & the programming which begins very early on from family and society - then we are stuck in a no-man's land, neither in the bliss of child-space nor in the land of bright awareness. It is my experience that the combination of 'child-eyes' in a being who has experienced life and had the courage to let go of all he/she/ knows is something quite unique and ever unfolding - it is the 'child' spirit who sees all anew, in each moment, with an adult intelligence which has very little to do with what we 'think' we know is intelligence ( usually just an excess of thinking).
EXCELLENT post - particularly in the context of Ladybear's How Thinking Can Change the Brain and THE hyperlinker's The Missing Piece - & as I have made reference to elsewhere IT IS ALL about the interconnectedness of the power of the energies which lie behind the synchronicity of NOW @zaadz - which in this instance translates to the ART of LOVE
Kimura is really great. His definition on thinking, however, comes directly from Walter Russell who is a great influence on him. Russell uses Knowledge vs. Thinking. Russell calls Knowledge man's Omniscient Power from God and says thinking is the expression of Power as explained in his classic book, “The Secret of Light.” Scroll down the link to find Knowledge vs.Thinking. You may want to check out the whole page, however.
His writing style is somewhat Victorian so try to get past that to the heart of the information. Good stuff, though.
